Admissions
Community Health graduate degree programs are located in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health. To apply for the Master or Doctoral programs, fill out the online application at the University of Illinois Graduate College site for Graduate Admissions.
For the Master degree programs, select Rehabilitation or Community Health for the proposed program and MS as the degree. Students interested in the Master of Public Health program should apply through the Master of Public Health web-site. Note that the Master of Science in Public Health is no longer accepting applications.
For the Doctoral degree program, select Community Health for the proposed program and PhD as the degree.
Applications for all degrees except the Master of Public Health (MPH) are due on January 15 for Fall admission and October 1 for Spring admission.
Applications for the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree are only accepted for Fall admission, and are accepted until April 15.
All application materials should be received by this date.
Official Transcripts
You must request official transcripts of all of your undergraduate and graduate work to be sent by the institution directly to the Graduate Program Secretary, Department of Kinesiology and Community Health, 112 Freer Hall, 906 S. Goodwin Urbana, Illinois 61801. Transcripts must show courses completed, grades, degree completed, and date of graduation. If you are in process of completing your degree, and expect to do so before you would enter the University of Illinois, have the current transcript sent now. After your degree is completed you must arrange for another transcript to be sent. If these records are in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by an official English translation.
Results of the Graduate Records Examination
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is administered by the Educational Testing Service. The results must arrive at the Department by the deadline mentioned above. Therefore, make sure that you make arrangements and take the test on time. Note that the Institution Code that you must enter in the GRE application for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is 1836.
Personal Statement
This statement is a very important part of your application. Your statement should be uploaded to your online application. Please include comments on why you are interested in the Community Health program, what is your current understanding of the field, what education and skills you expect to acquire through the degree, and how you expect to use your degree after graduation. Briefly describe any previous health or rehabilitation related experience including volunteer time, paid work, internships, coursework, and pertinent training. The Personal Statement is particularly important for applicants who completed their last degree five or more years ago. Applicants with professional work experience are encouraged to explain how they think their work experience has prepared them for graduate study at the University of Illinois.
Letters of Recommendation
Request three letters of recommendation (preferably from those who are acquainted with your educational background and academic abilities). Recommendations can be completed using the apply now application system or can be printed and mailed to the postal address below.
Assistantships
